In an attempt to help its users build their network, popular microblogging site Twitter Friday started rolling out a new "Suggestions for You" feature that essentially directs users to other Twitter accounts that they may find interesting.

The newly-released feature by Twitter is fairly similar to the "People You May Know" feature that the social networking site Facebook already offers, suggesting possible new friends to its users.

Noting that the new feature is a "simple, but powerful" one, Twitter said on its official blog: "With more than a hundred million users on Twitter, there are sure to be at least dozens of accounts out there that will reflect your interests." As such, the "Suggestions for You" feature will chiefly address the trouble that users face in finding like-minded people on the site.

Elaborating further, Twitter said the "Suggestions for You" algorithms help the users locate the accounts of other users with potential interest using a number of factors, including "people you follow and the people they follow."

With the roll out of the new feature in place, Twitter users who clicks on the "Who to Follow" link on the Twitter homepage can see a list of suggested accounts that they can follow.

Twitter has also revealed that it is planning to make the "Suggestions" feature available to developers of desktop and mobile applications for the microblogging site.
